The Province of Friesland takes over the management of the Sense of Place project. The Foundation has indicated that it ‘does not have the expertise and resources to continue the project well’.

The province is therefore going to have ‘the upper hand’, reports the Provincial Executive. However, the Sense of Place Foundation remains responsible for the artistic interpretation. In the autumn there was already talk of a possible role for the province. The Foundation already asked Commissioner Sietske Poepjes for help.

Sense of Place is a cultural landscape project around the Wadden Sea. Initiator and artistic director of Sense of Place is Joop Mulder, former director of the Oerol Festival on Terschelling. A project by Sense of Place that is already visible is Waiting for high water, a large statue of a woman on the dike near Holwerd. The maker of the sculpture is artist Jan Ketelaar from Drachten.

Commissioner of the Provincial Executive is investing 278,000 euros in the subprojects Wachten op hoog water, De Streken and Camera Batavia. The province pays 100,000 euros for the projects Dijk van een wijf, Terp van de Takomst, Kromme Horne and Mondriaan-kwelder. (source: www.lc.nl)
