The photo project ‘Bildtstars and Eigenheimers’ kicks off with ten huge portrait photos of local potato farmers along the Wadden coast of north-east Friesland. The portraits – made by photographer Linette Raven – are placed on farm roofs, walls and barns in the middle of the landscape for at least five years. This gives the potato farmers and their families a face. What story do they want to tell about the land they cultivate? About their culture and their lives? Discover it on location – with the head in the wind and at your own pace – using the ‘Bildtstars and Eigenheimers’ experience route: an expedition through a unique area.

Portraits in image and sound
The experience route ‘Bildtstars en Eigenheimers’ can be downloaded from 28 November via the free app Routes Friesland Style. The route will guide you past ten monumental photo installations that change your perspective on the landscape. From afar the portrayed potato farmers peer over the fields. What drives these hard workers? Listen to the audio files in the app to learn more about their passion for the land, farm life and the potato. Information boards at the various farms welcome you to the yard. The route starts in Hallum and ends in Anjum. It takes about two hours by bike, but you can also visit and admire the photo installations by car.

Potato Eater meets potato grower
With ‘Bildtstars en Eigenheimers’ Sense of Place restores the relationship between potato eater and potato grower; suddenly local potato farmers stand face to face with the public and play the leading role in their own landscape. The ten portraits along the Wadden coast of north-east Friesland are just the beginning of the project. Many more blow-up portraits will follow in 2019 at surprising locations along the Wadden coast of Friesland and Groningen. The landscape is the people and the people are the landscape’, says photographer Linette Raven. You just have to get to know those people. Because if you don’t know the farmer… well, you don’t know!

Are you on an expedition? From now on, you will not only spoon a fries or a potato on your plate, but there will also be a wonderful story to tell! (source: www.sense-of-place.eu)
