Agricultural minister Carola Schouten is making an ultimate attempt to close the last financial gaps of Holwerd aan Zee.

She said that the Lower House pledged Thursday evening during the discussion of the Agricultural Budget. Green Left-Member of Parliament Laura Bromet raised the subject.

The project on the Frisian north coast has already been given a lot of money. The Postcode Lottery also contributes 15 million euros.

Schouten is going to try whether she can get money from her colleague from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works from the potty for the Programmatic Approach to Large Waters. I can’t promise that that will lead to anything”, she warned. “But it would still be a possibility.

Bromet asked the minister to ‘remove the last bumps’. She considers the Holwerd aan Zee project (cost: EUR 60 million) to be a wonderful example of a participatory society. Schouten is also a supporter of the initiative, as she has already shown. Money was made available for this through the Regiodeal. It involved a total of 25 million euros for north-eastern Friesland.

Of that amount, 11 million euros has not yet been distributed, the Minister explained. Then it is a first logical step to see if you can reach further agreement on this in the region.

I would like to mediate in this. That is what I want to do. Money from the Infrastructure and Public Works budget could be a last resort for Holwerd. The initiators would then have to submit a formal application. (source: www.lc.nl)
